Intervention Project - Andrew Diaz

I chose this issue because as an artist myself, I almost constantly threatened that AI art is praised by others. Especially with how it looks, it may look beautiful at first and if you look a little closely there are many things wrong with it. For example, if you see an AI portrait of a person, the first thing you should look first is the hands and check the number of fingers. If the hands have extra fingers it is immediately AI. I’m friends with many people who also happen to be amazing artists themselves on my social media accounts that absolutely despise AI Art and I completely agree with them.

AI is also known for copying other original artworks on the internet and that irritates me the most. It had originality or creativity to back it up, how can it be called art if it lacks any of that. AI is incapable of producing unique pictures that are intended to express a feeling, idea, or emotion. Rather, it is designed to create images by taking samples from the original works of several artists and combining them into a reused uninspired composition. I also hate the fact that I sometimes get fooled when I spot an AI art piece thinking it was actually drawn on.

The first quote I picked in “The Art of Activism” is “From the Indonesian cave paintings of 45,000 years ago to the most cutting edge conceptual work produced in art institutions today, artists signs, symbols, stories and spectacles to move us (page 25). Art is to represent genuine emotion of the artists and craft it into something beautiful for everyone in the world to witness while AI on the other hand does not do that in any way. Art is a person's reflection of themselves. It has the power to communicate their deepest wishes, worries, aspirations, goals, and much more. Their lives are depicted.

The second I picked from the book is “As artistic activists, we are always trying to generate, creating experiences that generate feelings that have demonstrable impact in the world” (page 29). I consider myself lucky to be surrounded by a group of truly talented individuals who support hand drawn art instead of the lazy and cheaper way. I think we can all agree that AI can help in a lot of ways in society but it can not replicate the beauty and emotion that is real art.
