Quotes from This is What I Know About Art
A good example of art activism is the idea that Alfredo Jaar had and made him take a hard decision, which was to burn the art installation that he and the company Skoghall made for the people, but his reason was for the people to realize that they need a permanent museum in their town.
2. “One of these tools ought to be artistic activism. And as with all new tools, using this one will help you to see the job you are doing differently and prompt you to imagine other tasks that can now be done.” page 47
Artistic activism is not enough to fight the battles, but artists use their tool of art to support and increase the possibilities of winning the battle with the activists. This transforms art and activism with this new way of using art and one more tool to fight on the side of activism.
3. “Instead of striving to create masterpieces, we need to give ourselves permission to experiment in disasters: to muck about and test the ridiculous, absurd, silly, and, above all, stupid things.” page 58
To create something extraordinary we have to give ourselves the freedom and confidence to reach the goal that is the “masterpiece”. Many times, we stop our creativity process because we feel that it is not enough, but we do not give ourselves the confidence to continue in the disaster to get closer to the goal.
Artwork from Kimberly Drew's Tumblr Blog
The artwork that I found interesting is from M. Florine Démosthène, Prelude to the Capture. It is a very expressive and alive art in my opinion. I could compare it with images created in my mind, I feel that they would look a little blurry and the colors would be representative of the situation with the combination of figures and lines as the artwork. M. Florine Démosthène has a series of this art, of different people with different presentations but they all express the same thing because of the similarity of colors in all of them and how they represent the background and the people.
