PERFORMANCE ART ACTIVISM POST- KELLY B

Using the small instruction pieces we wrote and performed in class and the readings and videos for homework below, begin to create a definition of performance art. Note some of the performances we watched in the videos and performances you have seen or read about. Then imagine and design a performance art piece of your own. Think about the audience, the setting and the message of your performance. Describe it in detail and write a script or instructions for the performance. Sketch or include images if these can be helpful. Post this plan to the blog with the quotes from the reading assignments. ~1-2 paragraphs + quotes

Widewalls | Yoko Ono - A Groundbreaking Artist, Activist and Fighter

"With her oeuvre spanning over a variety of mediums from music, film and performance art, to painting, sculpture and text, Ono has been an eclectic author with groundbreaking notions."
I had only became familiar with her work recently so it was surprising to be that she does more than just performance art. I'm going to look into her physical works like paintings and sculptures.

"After dropping out, she became involved in the Fluxus movement which was led by conceptual artists from New York, like George Maciunas, Diane Wakoski, Walter De Maria and La Monte Young. Once Ono was settled in her new surroundings, she began writing poetry. Even at her early age, her work was considered as too radical by many, so it did not receive much recognition and acceptance."
I hadn't heard of the Fluxus movement besides that one day in class so it was interesting to learn about it. Without it my favorite types of art would not be here today or they would look completely different.

Hispanic Executive | Interview with Shaun Leonardo - Performance, Pedagogy, and Philosophy

"But for Leonardo, the act of experiencing a space, memory, or feeling is simultaneously an opportunity to reflect, meditate, and explore. I sat down with him to discuss these intersections as well as the ideas and principles that underlie his work."
I really liked how they worded that first line. It conveys that every situation can be turned to something to learn from or change for the future. In reality everything can be used as a learning moment so it was refreshing to read this.

"That practice takes the form of a workshop, as does much of my performance. So it is difficult for me to distinguish what others might call a more “polished performance” from a pedagogical practice because for me, they’re one and the same. The workshop, the platform of teaching and learning, is in and of itself the performance. It doesn’t lead to another output or product."
I also agree with this statement. Weather youre doing something for the first or last time it is all a performance or even if it wasa practice. Sometimes things go the way that you want them to and sometimes they dont, its all about what you are hoping and expecting to happen in the end, setting those goal for yourself.

Performance
I think mine would be related to the power of breathing and having it coralate to relaxing or something like that.
1. Sit on the floor in the most relaxed position for you.
2. Take a deep breathe in and out.
3. Think about a positive time in youre life.
4.Brethe in and out again thinking of this time until you smile.
