Self Introduction Post - Chahinaze Mama

Heyy! My name is Chahinaze Mama. I'm a freshman and currently majoring in biology. I'm hoping to become some type of doctor while also getting into real estate and becoming a real estate agent. I love animals but I specifically love cats. I have a cat myself and her name is meow-meow. I definitely want to get another soon. My family is originally from Algeria which I came back from this summer. I usually go every summer which I love. But I also want to travel to more places in the future. I also love taking pictures no matter what, I feel like it's a great way to capture memories that you can look back on. I'm really excited to see what my future has in store for me, and I look forward to trying new things and making connections with new people.

                                                          "Understanding Patriarchy"

"As their daughter I was taught that it was my role to serve, to be weak, to be free from the burden of thinking, to caretake and nurture others."

I think this quote is something that I've heard a lot and can also relate to. Being the oldest while also a girl, expectations like these are something that are placed on us and are expected from us. The writer also talks about how her brother experiences the same thing but with other expectations. I think expectations placed on specific genders is unfair and puts unnecessary pressure on people. Regardless of gender I think nobody should be limited to acting a certain way based on gender expectations.

"He was taught that a boy should not express feelings."

This quote goes back to what I was saying about gender expectations. Ones gender should not put a box on how a person is allowed to feel or express themselves. Alot of men are shamed for crying or showing emotion and I don't think that's right. I think regardless everyone is human and shouldn't be shamed for doing what humans naturally do.

What Memes Owe To Art History

". Easy to make, easy to share; instantly recognizable and a little nonsensical; a hilarious and at times sickly-sweet jab at the world’s blunders, scandals, protests, and hypocrisies."

I think this show how much of an impact memes can actually have. it gives people the ability to relate and be comforted by a joke that can also be meant to educate. Memes have such a diverse use. They can be used to bring awareness to certain struggles and or be used to educate and inform. It also can create a safe space because of the ability to use humor to also get and spread a message to an audience.

"It isn’t so much about visuals, but instead digs deep into the cultural architecture of memes and their political power as a networked critical resistance, where their abilities to incite and inspire, to problematize and be problematic in equal turn, offer a mirror image of our volatile present as much as their avant-garde heritage."

This quote explains the unknown political power memes have and their abilities when it comes to voicing opinions. It also gives a representation of how people want to express their concerns or knowledge on a specific topic. I think memes are a great way of putting the spotlight or grabbing the audience's attention to maybe convince them why this idea is wrong or right.

Memes Are Our Generations Protest Art

"But today, a new medium of protest art is reigning memes. Simple to make and simpler to distribute, they can communicate a stance or message at a glance and express the same feelings experts say are behind conventional protest art. There’s even an emerging genre within the landscape experts are calling “activist memes.”

Memes are a simple way to spread information or display a message. memes are pretty popular, so they are also able to read a large and diverse audience. they have the ability to give the writer a change to express themselves. Many activists also use memes, and I think it's a pretty affective way to bring attention to what their protesting.

"At their core, all memes, regardless of their politics, are a tool for expression. “Memes help to articulate specific points, amplify ideas, and intensify emotions,” Burroughs said. “Something can be comedic or a joke and still be incredibly poignant.”

While sending a serious message memes also have the ability to provide information with a joke. I think that is important because it can really grab the reader's attention and make its understanding easier. I think memes are great way to establish a safe space between the reader and messenger because jokes are known to bring people to together and set a common ground.
