Self Introduction Post - Wendy Vega Alva

Hi! My name is Wendy Vega Alva, I am 17 years old, this is my first year at NJCU and I am majoring in Medical Diagnostics Sonography.  I’m very easy going and would love to make new friends. I like to explore new hang out spots, I am very competitive and enjoy playing sports! I like to go on walks and have interesting ongoing conversations. Coming from a family of 7, I enjoy quality time and being surrounded by supporting and loving energy. I am striving for my degree in my major and to be living - ¨There’s a difference between existing and living, you want to be living.¨ from one of my professors.

During my younger years, I was really into art and drawing. It was considered one of my favorite hobbies and I still enjoy drawing and art, however I don’t have a lot of time on my hands to enjoy it as much as I wish. The images I put below are art projects I did during high school, two of which I still currently have. I would like to explore the depths into art and why sometimes less is more.

3. Memes Are Our Generations Protest Art - In this short reading, it explains to the reader that memes are the new way of getting opinions, news, and information out to the public and quick. It also states that when people make memes about an issue, it is backed up with emotions and opinions. Emotions and opinions that are felt through many people because if not, how or why would it go viral? I completely agree with this short reading! Memes are ways to grab younger viewers attention, ways to make boring information; fun! It’s also a great way to grab a viewers attention and inform them in a quick and efficient manor.
5. Guerrilla Girls - ¨You Have to Question What You See¨- While watching the short video, the Guerrilla Girls explain how back then most of the art that was being published and recognized was art made by a white male. They pointed out how society was letting discrimination happen right under their noses! And when they had published what they had noticed, most people didn’t believe it till they saw the different percentages of colored people and women’s art compared to a while males art. I do agree with the Guerrilla girls. Back then there was a huge societal difference, what a man should do that a women could not. Now in society, things are different, women and people of color are fighting for their rights and getting the recognition they final deserve!
