Performance Art Activism Post - Chahinaze Mama

Performance Activism Art Post

Wide walls | Yoko Ono - A Groundbreaking Artist, Activist and Fighter

1. "Even though she was frequently criticized and even ostracized by the press and the public, she fought her way through all the hardships with her creativity and challenging artwork."- I think this quote can be really inspiring to others. Although she faced harsh criticism frequently and was always in the public, she continued to be and display her true self through her artwork. Her creative ideas she brings to life through her performances show us her perspective on things. she knowingly does this even though many disagree or dislike her way of art.

2. "Even her earlier pieces often demanded the viewers’ participation and forced them to become involved with the artwork." - I chose this quote because I loved the fact that she involves her audience and gives them the chance to participate. I think it's a great way to show a better understanding and display of her artwork. I also think it gives her audience a different perspective of her art instead of just watching from a distance. As an audience member id imagines it to be such a unique experience to bring an artist's ideas to life using performance.

Hispanic Executive | Interview with Shaun Leonardo - Performance, Pedagogy, and Philosophy

1. "I have witnessed young people be easily derailed when they don’t see themselves in the representation of who is creating. Especially as I grew into my path as an educator, I found it equally important to share the work of my colleagues and those artists of color that inspired me with both young folks that I identified with (meaning those that looked like me) and white kids." - I think representation in art is important not only for the audience but for future potential artists who may interested. Shaun Leonardo mentions that a lack of representation can negatively impact young people's creativity and ability to express themselves.

2." I think the larger challenge surrounding not only the pandemic but also the converging crises of racial justice, reproductive rights, and everything else is the immediacy with which we are being called upon to act. This is infiltrated and influenced by social media and the sort of commotion and chaos of the news cycle:" -  i chose this quote because i believe when ther are issues such as racial justice, reproductive rights and etc, it is important to bring them to light and speak on it. Art is the perfect way to do that and while it being beneficial and can be pressuring for artists. Social media also plays a big role when it comes to faces the challenges that society is dealing with.

                                                          Performance Art

 -  Perspective and Art -

1. Without talking to one another, for the first minute with the canvas you were handed write your name on the back and begin to free hand a drawing of your choice.

2. When the minute is up stand up and hand the drawing to a random person in the room

3. When handed the canvas with the last owners drawing on it add to it and expand on the drawing. Feel free to do as please with whatever is already on it.

(Repeat this for 5 minutes each minute for a new canvas/person. 5 people should have drawn on your canvas)

3. After you have switched 5 times to 5 people each minute, hand the canvas to the original owner.

4. When you get your canvas compare and think about what you started with and think about the different perspectives and new visions changed or added to your artwork

5. Lastly based on how you feel about it, what it reminds you of, or what you think of, give it a name that best describes it.

I chose this idea as my performance art piece because it gives the audience a chance to participate and interact with one another without having to exchange words. Everyone has a chance to add their perspective on the artwork creating a new vision as the next person receives the piece. What one person might to see as an apple another may see as an orange. perspective makes artwork unique to the artist as they are able to display their thoughts in physical form.
